Performance Sports Therapy – Ottawa

What happens at a first dietitian appointment?

A first appointment is mostly a conversation. Your dietitian learns about your health, your usual eating and your goals, then gives you a small number of practical changes to start with.

Step by step

  1. Your history. Medical conditions, medications and supplements, digestive issues, allergies and any recent bloodwork.
  2. Your routine. What and when you eat on a typical day, your schedule, sleep, training and who does the cooking.
  3. Your goals. Managing a condition, fuelling for a sport, changing body composition or simply eating better.
  4. A starting plan. A few specific changes that fit your life, explained in plain language.
  5. Next steps. What to track, and when a follow-up makes sense.

What to bring

  • A list of medications and supplements, with doses
  • Recent lab results, if you have them
  • A few days of notes or phone photos of what you ate
  • Your training schedule if you are an athlete
  • Your questions

What it is not

You will not be handed a strict diet or a list of banned foods, and nobody is there to judge what you eat. Nutrition care also does not replace medical care: your dietitian will tell you if something should be checked by your doctor.

After the first visit

At our clinic, follow-up sessions, body composition measurement and meal planning are booked once the initial assessment is done. See the dietetics page for what our Registered Dietitians help with. Fees are on our Pricing page.
