How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
It depends on the injury, how long you have had it, and what you want to get back to. Your physiotherapist will give you an estimate at your first visit once they have assessed you.
What changes the number
- How long it has been there. A sprain from last week usually settles faster than pain you have had for a year.
- What your goal is. Walking without pain takes less than returning to competitive hockey.
- What you do between visits. Home exercises make the biggest difference to how quickly you progress.
- The tissue involved. Muscle tends to recover faster than tendon or ligament.
How visits are usually spaced
Visits are often closer together at the start and spread out as you improve. The aim is to get you managing on your own, not to keep you coming back indefinitely.
If you are not improving
Your plan is reviewed as you go. If you are not progressing as expected, your physiotherapist will change the approach or refer you to another member of our team or back to your doctor.
