Plantar fasciitis is one of the conditions shockwave is most often used for, particularly when heel pain has lasted several months and has not improved with stretching, footwear changes and exercise. Many people improve with it. It does not work for everyone.

Signs it may be plantar fasciitis

  • Sharp pain under the heel with your first steps in the morning
  • Pain after sitting, then easing as you move
  • Pain that builds after long periods on your feet

What we usually try first

  • Calf and plantar fascia stretching and strengthening
  • Advice on footwear and training load
  • Custom orthotics where appropriate

Where shockwave fits

If those have not been enough, shockwave can be added alongside the exercise plan. Your practitioner will assess your foot first to confirm the diagnosis, since other problems can cause heel pain too.
