About MICHAEL OTOO

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges, strengthen resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. My approach combines evidence-based practice with genuine human connection, providing a supportive space where clients feel understood, empowered, and equipped to move forward.

I work with adolescents, adults, athletes, professionals, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, self-esteem challenges, grief, and major life transitions. I have a particular passion for supporting high-performing individuals who often carry significant pressure while struggling silently beneath the surface.

My therapeutic style is warm, authentic, collaborative, and goal-oriented. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy, trauma-informed approaches, and performance psychology, I tailor each session to the unique needs of every client. Together, we identify patterns, develop practical coping strategies, and build sustainable pathways toward growth and well-being.

My perspective is also shaped by lived experience. After surviving a severe traumatic brain injury and a coma, and being told I would never play basketball again, I overcame significant adversity to return to professional athletics and earn multiple graduate degrees. This journey deepened my understanding of resilience, recovery, and the courage required to rebuild during life’s most difficult moments.

As a former professional basketball player and coach, I bring firsthand insight into performance pressure, confidence, identity, and mental health. Whether you are facing personal struggles, professional challenges, or seeking greater fulfillment, I am committed to helping you uncover your strengths, overcome obstacles, and become the healthiest, most authentic version of yourself.

My education includes a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology, a Master of Science in Psychology, and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.

Areas of Focus: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, CBT, Sports Performance, Athlete Mental Health, Relationships, Attachment Issues, Self-Esteem, Burnout, Life Transitions, Grief, and Personal Growth.
