Yes. Home exercises are a core part of physiotherapy, and they often drive recovery between visits. The best program is one tailored to you by a physiotherapist so you are doing the right exercises, the right way, at the right level.

Short, regular sessions of exercise, even ten minutes a day, often work better than one long session each week.

If an exercise feels confusing, ask us to review it at your next visit, or send a question to info@pstottawa.ca.

Why home exercise matters

Muscles and tendons adapt with regular, repeated loading. A visit gives guidance and treatment, but consistent practice between visits builds strength and movement.

Tips for doing them well

  • Ask your physio to show you each exercise and watch you do it
  • Start with a small number you can do consistently
  • Mild discomfort can be okay, sharp pain is not
  • Track what you do so we can adjust
  • Ask questions if anything feels unclear

Generic programs versus yours

Online exercises can be a starting point, but a physiotherapist can choose what fits your problem and change it as you improve.

If it flares up

Back off the exercise and let us know. A flare does not always mean harm, but we should adjust.

Next step

Book an assessment to get a program built around you.
