Our Services

We offer the following exceptional services aimed at dealing with musculoskeletal injuries for athletic and non-athletic injuries.

Functional Movement Screen (FMS)

The FMS is a screening tool used to evaluate 7 fundamental movement patterns for athletes/individuals who are NOT in PAIN.

WHAT IS IT?

  • 7 movement tests that require a balance of mobility and stability
  • A way to rate and rank movements
  • A method to identify compensatory patterns which lead to sub-optimal movement reinforcement leading to poor biomechanics and possible injury

WHY DO WE SCREEN?

  • To identify movement dysfunction in active people (establish a baseline of movement)
  • Develop a common movement language among sports medicine professionals
  • Gain better insight on how to enhance an individual’s workout, training, and/or exercise plan

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Assesses functional and fundamental movement
  • Gauges competence of basic movements uncomplicated by specific skills
  • Determines greatest areas of movement deficiency
  • Demonstrates limitations or asymmetries
  • Exposes dysfunction or pain or both

WHAT IT DOESN’T DO

  • Diagnose
  • Measure isolated joint movement

WHEN TO USE THE FMS

  • As part of a pre-placement (work) or pre-participation (exercise) examination to determine deficits that may be overlooked during a traditional medical and performance evaluation
  • To assess muscle flexibility, strength imbalances or compensation due to previous injury which are significant risk factors for future injury
  • To identify functional deficits related to proprioceptive, mobility and stability limitations in order to decrease injuries and improve performance

INTERPRETING SCREEN RESULTS & INTERVENTION

  • Utilization of an algorithm to quickly identify and prioritize asymmetries and movement restrictions found in the screen
  • Once the priority movement pattern has been identified, a targeted intervention using corrective exercises is formulated
  • If there are no areas of concern within a movement pattern, the individual is cleared to train and load that pattern
  • If PAIN is present during the FMS, the individual will immediately receive a Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) – a total body diagnostic system designed to provide an efficient method for systematically finding the cause of the patient’s pain, not just the source

    Concussion Management
    Additional Services

    Concussion Management

Always tell a parent, teacher, coach and/or friend if you, a teammate or even an opposing team member may have suffered a concussion. When in doubt, sit them out! The first 24-48 hours following a concussion are critical due to the potential for a more serious injury that may require immediate medical attention such as a bleed or swelling in the brain. Following the injury, the patient should be monitored for at least 3 hours for any worsening of their condition as this may indicate bleeding or swelling in the brain.
    Active Release Technique® (ART)
    Functional Therapy

    Active Release Technique® (ART)

ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
    Functional Therapy

    Functional Range Assessment® (FRA)

FRA® is a measurement based assessment system that provides objective measures of a person's movement capacity for each and every articulation (joint).  Then, training inputs (FRC®) are able to be directed at the individual’s specific deficits.
    Functional Therapy

    Functional Range Release® (FR)

Functional Range Release technique, or FR® Release is an advanced, and comprehensive system of soft tissue assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation used by some of the most highly regarded manual therapists around the world. The goal of FR is to influence the Central Nervous System (CNS) to ensure greater joint range of motion and strength, concurrently.
    Functional Therapy

    Functional Range Conditioning® (FRC)

Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®) utilizes the latest advancements in scientific knowledge, combined with tried and tested training methods to increase ones active, useable ranges of motion by simultaneously improving articular mobility, strength/resilience, and neurological control.

    Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)

The SFMA is a total body movement diagnostic system. It provides an efficient method for systematically finding the cause of a patient's PAIN, not just the source. Normal movement is achieved through the integration of fundamental movement patterns with an adequate balance of mobility and motor control. The human body will adapt or create compensatory movement patterns in response to pain, lack of mobility, and/or loss of motor control. Over time, these changes can lead to more significant dysfunction and/or increased pain and fear of movement. Treating the source of pain does not address the fundamental cause of the problem.
    Acupuncture

    Dry Needling

Dry needling is an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, rehabilitation from injury, and even pain and injury prevention, with very few side effects. This technique is unequaled in finding and eliminating dysfunction that leads to pain and functional deficits.
    Acupuncture

    Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

The goal of IMS treatment is to release a shortened muscle, which presses on and irritates the nerve. Supersensitive areas can be desensitized and the persistent pull of shortened muscles can be relaxed. IMS is very effective for releasing shortened muscles under contracture, thereby causing mechanical pain from muscle pull.
    Contemporary Medical Acupuncture
    Acupuncture

    Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture (CMA) is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique, in which fine solid needles (acupuncture needles) are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites, and stimulated manually or with electricity for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system and/or the endocrine, exocrine and immune systems, in pain syndromes, functional problems, and any diseases in which these modulatory mechanisms are available.
