What are Orthotics?

Our prescription orthotics are custom made using a unique blend of materials that are best for that particular person. Whether made for a casual shoe, athletic shoe or skate, these foot orthotics provide enough rigidity to support the feet, while offering the foot the right amount of flexibility to properly absorb forces on the ankles, knees, hip and spine.

When you think of orthotic therapy, you might think of plaster cast molding – and you would be correct. But orthotic therapy (custom inserts worn in shoes) is in the midst of major technological advancement. Metascan™, a computerized gait and pressure analysis system from Footmaxx, is an innovative diagnostic tool that analyzes foot function when a patient stands, walks or runs across a mat. The result is a computerized gait analysis report that provides a thorough clinical assessment to help the doctor prescribe custom orthotics – literally within minutes.

Concussion Management

Always tell a parent, teacher, coach and/or friend if you, a teammate or even an opposing team member may have suffered a concussion. When in doubt, sit them out! The first 24-48 hours following a concussion are critical due to the potential for a more serious injury that may require immediate medical attention such as a bleed or swelling in the brain. Following the injury, the patient should be monitored for at least 3 hours for any worsening of their condition as this may indicate bleeding or swelling in the brain.

The FMS is a screening tool used to evaluate 7 fundamental movement patterns for athletes/individuals who are NOT in PAIN. It consists of 7 movement tests that require a balance of mobility and stability and serves as a way to rate and rank movements. It is also a method to identify compensatory patterns which lead to sub-optimal movement reinforcement leading to poor biomechanics and possible injury

Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)

The SFMA is a total body movement diagnostic system. It provides an efficient method for systematically finding the cause of a patient's PAIN, not just the source. Normal movement is achieved through the integration of fundamental movement patterns with an adequate balance of mobility and motor control. The human body will adapt or create compensatory movement patterns in response to pain, lack of mobility, and/or loss of motor control. Over time, these changes can lead to more significant dysfunction and/or increased pain and fear of movement. Treating the source of pain does not address the fundamental cause of the problem.
