Our Services

We offer the following exceptional services aimed at dealing with musculoskeletal injuries for athletic and non-athletic injuries.
Bike Fitting

Bike Fitting

Since 2014, Performance Sports Therapy has been providing professional, high quality, detail-oriented bike fitting services to competitive cyclists and triathletes, mountain bikers, as well as casual weekend warriors just looking to feel better on the bike.

Our process starts by performing a comprehensive examination of each body segment to identify every individual’s particular biomechanical make up. Measurements are taken in weight-bearing, semi-weight bearing and non-weight bearing to get the most accurate results. Our precise understanding of compression, tension and shearing on the body while riding prevents injury! This translates into less repetitive strain on the body and more comfortable, pain free miles on the bike (note: not responsible for self-inflicted pain while attacking Pink Lake!)

Every fit is performed by a licensed physiotherapist, former professional cyclist and Canadian National mountain biking champion. James uses his knowledge of the human body combined with his experience in the peloton and on knarly single track all over the world to satisfy every cyclist’s needs, big or small.

We don’t just fit you; we teach you how to be a better cyclist and that’s what makes the real difference. Don’t be side-lined due to injury – gain that competitive edge you have always wanted! Let us help you achieve your best year on the road/path/trail/mountain to date!

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals with a significant role in health promotion and treatment of injury and disease. They combine their in-depth knowledge of the body and how it works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability.
Physiotherapy

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Whether you are trying to become pregnant, are expecting, have children or haven’t had children, every woman can benefit from working with a pelvic health physiotherapist! The goal of pelvic health physiotherapy is to help you resolve and/or prevent the common pelvic floor dysfunctions that many of us have been told are a normal part of pregnancy, aging or simply just being a woman. Pelvic health physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat the pelvic floor. We also assess how your pelvic floor muscles work together with the rest of your body and not just in isolation. Pelvic floor rehab is not just about Kegels!
Physiotherapy

Pediatric Physiotherapy

Children are uniquely different from adults and therefore require individualized physiotherapy assessment and treatment. At Performance Sports Therapy, we provide orthopedic physiotherapy to support the unique needs of the pediatric  population.
Registered Massage Therapy

Sports/Deep Tissue Massage

Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. The therapeutic effect of this treatment aims to enhance health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. The acute or chronic effects of pain and stress can be released as physical and mental function is restored and maintained.
Registered Massage Therapy

Swedish Massage

Swedish massages are known as a light, more relaxing type of massage that can help increase circulation, decrease muscle tension and reduce anxiety. As opposed to deep tissue work that is more localized to high tension areas, Swedish massage involves longer more fluid strokes that provide a relaxing sensation.
Registered Massage Therapy

Pregnancy Massage

Prenatal massage is customized to an expectant mother’s needs. Many pregnant woman can suffer from lower back pain, swollen ankles, leg and foot pain and muscle tension.   Massage can help provide safe and effective relief to expectant mothers by improving mobility, alleviating sore spots and increasing relaxation.
Chiropractic

Sports Chiropractic

Sports Chiropractic is the evolution of traditional chiropractic therapy to include a plethora of modalities, such as: soft tissue treatment [Active Release Technique (ART) and Functional Range Release (FR)], instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy (Graston Technique), kinesiology taping (SpiderTech), contemporary medical acupuncture, and functional rehabilitation [Functional Range Conditioning (FRC)]. The ultimate goal is to provide specific and individualized treatments for all presenting musculoskeletal complaints.

Concussion Management

Always tell a parent, teacher, coach and/or friend if you, a teammate or even an opposing team member may have suffered a concussion. When in doubt, sit them out! The first 24-48 hours following a concussion are critical due to the potential for a more serious injury that may require immediate medical attention such as a bleed or swelling in the brain. Following the injury, the patient should be monitored for at least 3 hours for any worsening of their condition as this may indicate bleeding or swelling in the brain.
Functional Therapy

Active Release Technique® (ART)

ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
Functional Therapy

Functional Range Assessment® (FRA)

FRA® is a measurement based assessment system that provides objective measures of a person's movement capacity for each and every articulation (joint).  Then, training inputs (FRC®) are able to be directed at the individual’s specific deficits.
Functional Therapy

Functional Range Release® (FR)

Functional Range Release technique, or FR® Release is an advanced, and comprehensive system of soft tissue assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation used by some of the most highly regarded manual therapists around the world. The goal of FR is to influence the Central Nervous System (CNS) to ensure greater joint range of motion and strength, concurrently.
Functional Therapy

Functional Range Conditioning® (FRC)

Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®) utilizes the latest advancements in scientific knowledge, combined with tried and tested training methods to increase ones active, useable ranges of motion by simultaneously improving articular mobility, strength/resilience, and neurological control.
Functional Therapy

Functional Movement Screen (FMS)

The FMS is a screening tool used to evaluate 7 fundamental movement patterns for athletes/individuals who are NOT in PAIN. It consists of 7 movement tests that require a balance of mobility and stability and serves as a way to rate and rank movements. It is also a method to identify compensatory patterns which lead to sub-optimal movement reinforcement leading to poor biomechanics and possible injury
Functional Therapy

Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)

The SFMA is a total body movement diagnostic system. It provides an efficient method for systematically finding the cause of a patient's PAIN, not just the source. Normal movement is achieved through the integration of fundamental movement patterns with an adequate balance of mobility and motor control. The human body will adapt or create compensatory movement patterns in response to pain, lack of mobility, and/or loss of motor control. Over time, these changes can lead to more significant dysfunction and/or increased pain and fear of movement. Treating the source of pain does not address the fundamental cause of the problem.
Acupuncture

Dry Needling

Dry needling is an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, rehabilitation from injury, and even pain and injury prevention, with very few side effects. This technique is unequaled in finding and eliminating dysfunction that leads to pain and functional deficits.
Acupuncture

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

The goal of IMS treatment is to release a shortened muscle, which presses on and irritates the nerve. Supersensitive areas can be desensitized and the persistent pull of shortened muscles can be relaxed. IMS is very effective for releasing shortened muscles under contracture, thereby causing mechanical pain from muscle pull.
Acupuncture

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture (CMA) is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique, in which fine solid needles (acupuncture needles) are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites, and stimulated manually or with electricity for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system and/or the endocrine, exocrine and immune systems, in pain syndromes, functional problems, and any diseases in which these modulatory mechanisms are available.
